The challenge: A time consuming and costly process to access pathology services
Patients of pathology services in South Africa currently have no alternative than to visit a doctor for a consultation, in order to get referred for a blood test. Once they have the referral, they can visit a lab, after which results are sent back to the doctor. Even when patients know which tests they need (e.g. routine tests such as cholesterol or diabetes), they still go through this painful process.

The solution: A digital health service that is convenient and empowers patients with their own health data
Our team re-imagined the patient experience and designed a digital health solution that allows patients to request routine blood and urine tests directly, using a simple online process. Patients are empowered to decide themselves what tests they want to conduct, and when they want to do it. This patient centric solution facilitates the relationship with various pathology laboratories, and provides results directly to patients, using plain language to explain the results to patients and immediately referring patients with undesirable results to an appropriate medical professional.

Our Healthcare Experience Design team researched, ideated and designed a digital health solution that empowers patients to understand their health and wellbeing more holistically and ultimately building up an Electronic Health Record.
The solution is a Self-Care Mobile App, for iOS and Android devices.
This digital Electronic Health Record App was designed using our unique Patient and Provider Centric Design approach.
We re-imagined what the experience could be for the patients, the nurses and the doctors in the Emergency Room through Service Design, and defined the new processes and digital technology through a user-centered design approach.
